It is a time of the year when people get together to pray, to socialize and then to have parties once the fasting is over. Ramadan is not just another ritual to adhere to but an opportunity to become better in every facet of our lives.

Fasting during Ramadan has several health benefits. There are social and spiritual benefits as well. Ramadan is also about being charitable. It is a month long celebration of the wisdom that has been passed down from the Prophet through the Quran.


Ramadan can be celebrated alone or with one’s family. But the best way to celebrate Ramadan is with friends, relatives, colleagues, neighbors and the larger community.

Here are five ways to share the Ramadan with others.

  • Don’t breaking your fast alone or just with your family. How about getting together with your friends, to call over your colleagues from work and to be a part of the larger society or community we live in? You can host an Iftar for your family, relatives and friends or as many people as you can comfortably afford.
  • Like Iftars, which is when you would break the fast, you can also call your family and friends for Suhur or Suhoor, which is the pre-fasting meal before sunrise. You can have this meal before dawn as well. Fasting becomes much more fun and socially engaging when you have people around you to start your day with the pre-dawn meal and then to end the fast after sunset with get-togethers for Iftar.
  • Ramadan is as much about fasting as it is about prayers. You can invite people you know for prayers. They would reciprocate and praying can become a social experience. Any activity that we share or engage in with our friends and family becomes less of a custom and more fun. Praying can be more satiating when you do it with your loved ones.
  • Ramadan is an ideal time to be generous. You can always indulge in donating various stuffs that you don’t need. You can even pay for food and drinks, clothes and other basics for those who don’t have a privileged life.
  • Ramadan gifts are very common. Consider gifts for your near and dear ones, distant relatives, friends and also neighbors. You don’t need to spend a lot. A simple Ramadan journal can be a nice gift.
